XVII: That Geeky Sudden College Acquaintance

Isn’t it frustrating that you were once the unapproachable, and now you break that shell and be more sociable, now you meet other people who has the same shell you once break? Isn’t it more frustrating that when you were once the unapproachable, and now you do your best to be friendly, you didn’t realize you were sending the wrong signals to whoever you want to befriend (more emphasis if it’s a girl)?

Sure, it is natural to get rejected, and there goes the quote “what goes around, comes around.” But it sucks that it does happen, especially if one is simply being friendly.

I had this short set of conversations with a college mate whom I only got to be acquainted a  term before she graduated. All I can say is that she definitely looks like a geek, and it turned out… she is. Continue reading

XVI: The Perils of Thrice-a-Week Blogging

Last week, I only got to write a seemingly-nice topic about getting closer with Younger Brother. And around the first week of January this year, I was supposed to follow this Tuesday-Thursdays-Saturdays schedule for blogging, which turned into a simple three-times-a-week schedule.

With the following of to-do’s in my planner the past few weeks, it’s like I was going back to that old person who I’d like to call a “creature of habit”. And there goes the thing about chores: chores suck. And sometimes, there are habits that could hurt other aspects of your life or relationships.

(sigh)

I am still keeping up the schedule though, but then again, I should live up more. There’s always a good story somewhere out there. I know it.

XV: Younger Brother and College

This term, I have been hanging out with my Younger Brother a lot. Ever since we had this heart-to-heart talk around December of 2011 at the city plaza near our former high school, and we got to talk about personal things I didn’t really get to share with my parents or even Elder Brother, we got to nurture that different kind of closeness ever since.

When we were younger, almost everything involves fist fights and throwing of things with one another. It seems like a nightmare to some, but I was that of a hot-headed kid and Younger Brother would usually retaliate. But now, everything involves less fists and household weapons, and more laughs and chit-chat about pop culture and our college lives.

After-4pm classes, we would meet a few minutes after, and then go home together. With after-6pm classes, we would grab a bite or a plateful of fast food and kill the rush hour, and then commute at 7pm. And in between commutes, window shopping, even some of those How I Met Your Mother watching time, I got to know more about my brother, and I hope he got to know more about me too.

YB: What do you think about Kate Beckinsale3?
DW: She’s pretty.
YB: More like… HOT.
DW: MILF.
YB: Definitely a MILF.

College, being the stress machine that it is, may be the one who helped me to be close with Younger Brother, among the family members. The more stress college dishes out, the more it indirectly pushed me to find a different breather from all of the booze, hobbies, friends or maybe even blogging. And with this “better” relationship with Younger Brother, it is definitely “de-stressing”.

Well, except when we would talk the awfully-high escalator at the Shangri-La Mall in Mandaluyong:

YB: Come on, kuya1. Face your fears!
DW: FUCK YOU. I HATE LOOKING DOWN.
YB: Hey, look. There’s an ice cream store.
DW: Where? (looks down) DAMN IT. DON’T  MAKE ME EVEN.

And speaking of family, a few questions: Do you have a younger brother/siser? How are you and him/her? Tell me about it on the comments section.
